Contribution à l'étude des huiles essentielles des plantes aromatiques du Bénin ; cas de l'Ocinum basilicum, O. canum et O. gratissimum dans la perspective de leur production

This work deals with the study of 3 species of the genus Ocinum : O. basilicum, widely used to flavour food ; O. canum used in medicinal preparations and O. gratissimum which is not only used as vegetable but also contains some valuable pharmaceutical qualities.
The content of essential oils was analysed against the vegetative cycle of the 3 species and against environmental parameters : in particular the soil and the climate.
It is especially the pharmacological aspect that makes this research work so worthwile. It can be used as a model for the scientific study of a variety of plants used in traditional medicine which could produce drugs that would be financially accessible to the local people.
Thus, this research fits into one of the sectoral priorities of development co-operation : the priority of public health.
Moreover, the experimental cultivation of these plants can also be considered relevant for a sustainable development and even for food security.
