Presse et démocratie en Afrique francophone. De la communication traditionnelle précoloniale à l'émergence d'une presse privée dans les transitions démocratiques au Bénin et au Niger

This doctoral research analyses the modernizing African press in its - not always successful - transition to democratic standards. It offers the opportunity to follow very closely the birth of a more diversified and free opinion in South-Saharan Africa, more particularly in Benin and Niger. And what is even more fundamental: by means of modern communication, this research describes in an unexpected perspective the relations between the production and distribution of knowledge and the practice of power at the very instant of a complete restructuring of African 'governmentality' in the name of economic adaptation and management.
