The Relationship between Financial Intermediation and Economic Growth in Developing Countries

This thesis, based on a solid bibliography, aims at demonstrating the influence of the quality of the financial system on economic growth in developing countries. This financial system must, at the same time, fit into the frame of the world economy and be socially acceptable (see Grameen Bank). Such efficient financial structures demand macro-economic stability, control over the functioning of rules and a harmonious fitting into the international financial system. The government should watch corruption and not be liable to it. Though it is obvious that financial development may really be the driving force to economic growth, the reverse is a possibility we cannot rule out.
The present-day crises in Asia and Russia show that financial development without these preceding conditions may, on the contrary, cause heavy economic and social regression.
